BHAKTAPUR DURBAR SQUARE - World Heritage


Historical Information.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square is also known as Taleju Dubar which was built by the Mallas kings of Nepal. According to the historical data, there were used to be 99 courtyard inside this single Durbar Square. Bhaktapur Durbar Square was the palace for the ruling kings in that period and represents the center administration for whole Bhaktapur Kingdom. Most of the people at that times were of Newar caste of Hindu religion. It had been said that there was still a hidden underground passage out of the Durbar or palace constructed with the purpose of running away at the time of emergency during wars for the Kings or higher authorities people. We can see the hidden passage covered by big stone inside the durbar square in present time also.

Physical Location:
Bhaktapur Durbar Square is situated on the central development of Nepal or province number 3 in Bhaktapur District. It is about 15 Km far away from Kathmandu district. It lies at the heart of the Bhaktapur city surrounded by the ancient architectural houses.
