Western Development Region


The Western Development Region is located between Central and Mid-Western Development Regions.
Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, and Himalchuli mountains stretch across the northern part of this region. Major rivers in this region are Kaligandaki, Seti Gandaki, Marshyandi, and Trishuli. The world’s deepest gorge/valley ‘Dana’ is in this region where the river, Kaligandaki floes down to the south. Inner mountain valleys Manang and Mustang lie in this region.
This region has more tourists sites such as Pokhara, Lumbini, Manang and Mustang. Pokhara is reknown  tourists destination in the world. It receives the highest rainfall in the country. There are numbers of beautiful places likes Fewa, Begnas, Rupa Lakes; and David’s fall etc. which attracts tourists most.
Thalkalis and Gurungs live in the northern parts of this regions. They are mainly involved in trade and tourism.
Agriculture is the main occupation in theis region. Rice, Maize, Millet , Wheat, and Barley are the main food crops in this region. This region has great potentiality I horticulture e.g. Mustang is famous for apple and Gorkha is famous for orange. Pokhara,Butwal, Parasi, Palpa, Tansen are the main cities which are connected to Kathmandu by land and air transportation.
