Mid-Western Development Region


This region is located between Far-Western Development Region. It is the largest region in area. Karnali zone, the largest zone and Dolpa, the largest district of the country are in this region. This region is backward in economic, education, and other development sectors because of rain shadow. Karnali zone is less productive for food crops. However, this area is rich in medicinal herbs and fruits. To develop this region this sub sector should be explored and modernized. There is lack of good transportation, communication, and health facilities. The rate of illiteracy, life expectancy and schooling os comperatively low. It is the biggest development region in the area but it has the lowest population density.
Karnali, Bheri and Rapti are the major rivers in the region. Rara and Phosksundho are famous lakes for their size and depth respectively. Shey Phosksundho National Park  and Rara National Park can be the attractive place for tourists. If these  place are linked with transportation facilities the tourism industry help to lift the economic condition of this region. Nepalgunj, Surkhet, dang are the major cities. Among them, Nepalgunj is the main commercial city. It has linked with Jumla, jajarkot, Humla, Rukum, and Dolpa by air service
